Using iPads During Math

In math, iPads can be used to access digital content providers such as ALEKS Math. Below you will find other apps that allow students access to digital math tools and practice space. Click on images below for more information or examples from the apps.

Math Tools

Here are a variety of math tools that allow students to have virtual access to manipulatives that they can use to show learning or assist in solving problems.

Virtual Manipulatives allows students to compare and convert fractions, decimals, and percentages in a very visual way.

Number Pieces allows students to manipulate base ten blocks to use as counters or represent numbers and place value.

Number Frames allows students to create any size frame and add in and take out counters. It is great for students representing complimentary numbers or creating arrays.

Try this!

Try app smashing with any of these apps.  Have students take screen shots or save an image of their creation. Then, students can insert that image into other recording apps to explain their solution or thinking displayed by the image!

Pattern Shapes allows students to manipulate pattern blocks to create shapes from smaller shapes. Students can turn and change shape size.

Geoboard allows students to create shapes out of virtual rubberbands. This app allows for coloring coding and shading to help show students how different shapes can be formed.

Geogebra combines geometry and algebra by allowing students to plot points, lines, and shapes on a plane. Student can also manipulate the plots and shapes with equations.

Whiteboard Recording

Apps such as Educreations and ShowMe allow students and teachers to record their voice, pictures, and live video of drawings on a whiteboard. Students can create "How To Solve" videos that help teachers check for understanding and quickly find any misconceptions.
